The Haunted Castle - Reader's Theatre

This year, our 6th graders are working with a methodology called Reader's Theatre which is a great way to learn and have fun at the same time. By using the same script repeatedly, students improve their reading and oral skills, practising intonation and pronunciation.

Our first contact with the methodology was a short play called The Haunted Castle (taken from the website http://missgbrown.weebly.com) which we adapted to our own needs. The boys and girls had great fun acting out their different parts and, although we were not going to present the play in front of other students, we decided that a Halloween reading for 5th grade would be interesting.

In reader's theatre, children don't have to memorise their lines so they have the security of the script. It's important for them to add gestures and voice intonation.

As a first try, the experience was positive, so much so that the boys and girls want to prepare a Christmas play to present to the youngest kids in our school. Watch this space!

OP ART - our new art project

In grade 6, we've just discovered an artist called Bridget Riley. She's been painting for many years but her paintings are special because they form part of the OP ART movement. OP ART deals with optical illusions, which means that we have to work hard with our eyes to see things that are not really there, or that are there but hidden away!

We had great fun discovering this type of art... and now, we're creating our own work! You'll soon be able to see it here... keep your EYES open for our very own Montaura OP ART!!!

ENGLISH THEATRE TO CELEBRATE SAINT GEORGE'S DAY - LABYRINTH

Did you know that Saint George is the patron saint of England? So, it is a big day for us to celebrate in our English class. This year, once again, we decided to bring in the Face2Face theatre company as we thoroughly enjoyed their plays last year.

The first play was LABYRINTH for the boys and girls from fourth to sixth grade: Elsa is an explorer. Armed only with her map and a compass, she travels the world in search of adventure. Her latest mission is in China, searching for the lost treasure of the last Chinese Emperor. But when Elsa arrives at the Emperor's tomb, danger awaits...

Face to face theatre Company

This morning, as part of the celebrations for Sant Jordi, we were delighted to participate in two different shows at our theatre in Mancor.

The first show was Cinderella for our boys and girls from second to sixth year and the second show was Jungle Fever for the younger children from age 3 to first year of primary.

The kids had a fantastic time participating: dancing, singing, laughing and having lots of fun!

Our thanks to Beth Cohen from the Face to Face Theatre Company who did a great job!

English with Rafel!!

We have had the pleasure of Rafel's company for the past three months while Angie was recovering from a car accident. Now, Angie's back and ready for action! We would like to thank Rafel for all his hard work during this time. We've had great fun in class with him learning English and doing art. We had special fun with the English games we played together - a different and fun way to learn how to speak another language!

Thank you very much Rafel for being our English and art teacher during this time, we'll miss you!!!
